Gregor Norman-Wilcox Amelung Correspondence,

1930-1933

This small collection consists primarily of incoming correspondence to Gregor Norman-Wilcox, former Curator of Decorative Arts at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, in 1932. The letters relate to identification of glass attributed to the Amelung Glass Manufactory and investigation of other sites associated with John Frederick Amelung. Correspondents include museum curators, antiques dealers, and owners of other pieces attributed to the manufactory, including Marshall L. Etchison, Rhea Knittle, George McKearin, Ruth Ralston, Arthur J. Sussel, and Harry Hall White. Other materials include articles, notes, and a photograph. Also of note in this material is a reference in a letter written by Harry Hall White to an African American antiques dealer in Frederick, Maryland, "Nick." "Nick" is thought to be Nicholas Robertson, born in 1862. White characterizes him as very knowledgeable about Amelung glass.
